WordPress 4.3 is Here: Time to Update

Yep, you read that right, and you know what that means, right? Time to update! For those of you who who are current subscribers to one of our WordPress Maintenance plans, you can skip that step as we’ve already got you covered; you do however want to know about all the cool new features available in 4.3 though don’t you? Of course you do, so without further ado, here they are!

Improved Menus

WordPress 4.3 Menu Customizer

For those of you who use the new Customizer, which allows users to edit and view changes to their site in real time, this is huge: no more switching back to the “Menus” panel to make your edits as you can do so right from the Customizer, a big time time saver if ever there was one!

Easier Formatting

WordPress 4.3 Formatting Features

For folks in a hurry to get that next blog post published the fine folks at WordPress have introduced formatting shortcuts: no longer do you have to highlight text to create lists and headings, just key in either an asterisk to create a list (*) or a hash-tag to create a heading and you’re good to go! Good stuff, eh?

Site Icons

WordPress 4.3 Logo Customizer

Although you can add your logo & favicon in many WordPress themes already, they’re dependent on the theme to stay in place. Switch themes and they’re gone. Well no more: adding your logo to your site is now a feature native to WordPress, meaning that even if you switch to a new theme your logo will stay in place, which is great.

Increased Security

WordPress 4.3 Password Generator

Use of weak passwords is always a huge security risk and to that end we always encourage our clients to use strong, alpha-numeric passwords and keep them stored in LastPass, 1Password or some other such password management application. Generating these passwords just got a bit easier however with the introduction of this great new feature: when new users are added to WordPress a new password will automatically be generated for them, which eliminates having to generate one yourself.

That’s All Folks!

And there you have it, but a few of the new features just rolled out in WordPress 4.3, exciting stuff, right? It just goes to show that keeping your WordPress site up-to-date is great not only for the security of your website, but also because it enables you to do more in less time, which is always a plus!
